Pool Party Tips
The crickets are starting to hum their soulful song, the breeze is slightly warmer, the shade more inviting, the sun higher and the days longer. El Nino is threatening, and rain clouds are becoming scarce.
The season of the pool party is upon us.
Here are a few tips to ensure your party goes off without a hitch.
1. Make sure your pool is sparkling before the party begins, check the pH level, add any salt or chlorine that is required and give the pool a good clean. Nothing worse than a green pool on party day.
2. Music is integral to a rocking pool party (if you are happy to suffer a cliché, you can’t go past Bob Marley and the Beach Boys), so it is inevitable that you will feel inclined to drag a set of speakers outside. Avoid any electrical disasters by keeping them up high and away from the pool itself, never trust an enthusiastic bomber to keep their splash to a minimum.
3. This may seem obvious, but it has to be mentioned. Glass and pools don’t mix; be sure to have a decent supply of plastic cups on hand to avoid any cocktail-pool related temptation. A few tacky umbrellas and coloured straws should liven them up a bit.
4. Keep the food table well away from the pool, you can’t stop people from going for a wonder with their snag, but you can at least attempt to tempt them away from the water while eating. Diving for BBQ remains isn’t great fun.
5. Have a limitless supply of sunscreen, we do live in Australia after all.
6. Create areas of shade with festive umbrellas, or tarps. The middle of the day can be a touch overwhelming, not to mention plain dangerous, for sun dwelling. Ensure your guests can enjoy the pool in the heat of the day with a few shady spots.
7. Pool toys, obviously a must. Nothing beats a spontaneous game of classic catch or water wrestling.
Nothing beats a good theme to get people in the mood. Here are a few daggy, but excellent suggestions:
- Nautical
- Hawaiian
- Spring Fling
- Miami
