Mineral Guard is a secondary sanitiser and must always be used with a primary sanitiser such as chlorine or a saltwater chlorinator.
Australian pool standards recommend maintaining a minimum residual chlorine level of 1 ppm.
Do not use Mineral Guard with:
- Bromine sanitisers
- PHMB or biguanide sanitisers
- Copper-based algaecides
- Soda ash products
These chemicals may interfere with the mineral sanitising process.

Do I still need chlorine if I install Mineral Guard?
Yes. Mineral Guard is a secondary sanitiser and must be used with chlorine or a saltwater chlorinator. Maintain a minimum chlorine residual of 1 ppm.
Does Mineral Guard replace my chlorinator?
No. It enhances your existing sanitising system by reducing chlorine demand and adding residual mineral sanitising action.
Can I use Mineral Guard with a salt chlorinator?
Yes. Mineral Guard is compatible with saltwater chlorination systems and works as a secondary sanitiser alongside them.
Does it require electricity?
No. Mineral Guard operates using water flow only.
How long does the cartridge last?
The Mineral Guard cartridge lasts up to 6 months or one swimming season, whichever is shorter. After this period the cartridge should be replaced and discarded in household waste. The cartridge cannot be reused.
Do I need to do anything after installing a new cartridge?
Yes. Initial superoxidation with chlorine is required to burn off contaminants and activate the cartridge. Raise free chlorine to around 3 ppm and maintain this slightly elevated level for around 2 weeks. After that, you can allow the pool to run at minimum allowable chlorine levels, with Australian Standards recommending a minimum 1 ppm residual chlorine.
Will it stain my pool?
When used as directed, Mineral Guard is designed to remain below staining thresholds and is backed by AstralPool’s no-stain guarantee.
