Frequently Asked Questions

Why isn't my PoolVac V-Flex moving or showing slow forward movement?
Insufficient water flow is the most common cause. Check the flow gauge, clear any blockages, and ensure shoes and wings are not worn. If proper flow cannot be achieved, the issue is likely within the pool's circulation system rather than the cleaner.
Why does the cleaner fail to climb the walls or stay on the floor?
Low water flow, worn shoes, or the wrong shoe type can prevent climbing. Check the flow gauge, inspect the cleaner throat, confirm correct shoe type for your pool surface, and ensure the hose is long enough. Adjusting the rear flap may also be required.
Why does the PoolVac V-Flex climb too high and suck air at the surface?
This indicates excessive suction. Reduce suction using the regulator valve or suction valves and set the rear flap adjuster to Position I. Correcting the flow will prevent the cleaner from rising too far up the wall.
Why does the cleaner get stuck on steps, corners, or obstacles?
If the cleaner spends too long in one area, adjust the rear flap to Position I. Confirm the flow reading is correct and ensure return jets are not directing water toward the cleaner.
What should I do if the cleaner head "floats" or lifts off the pool floor?
Air in the system or return jet interference is usually the cause. Fully submerge the cleaner and hose to remove air, and angle return jets downward. Ensure shoes and wings are in good condition and the hose length is correct.
How do I know if my water flow setting is too high or too low?
Use the supplied flow gauge. The black disk must sit between MIN and MAX. The regulator valve can reduce suction but cannot increase flow if the system is underpowered. Low readings usually indicate a filtration or circulation issue.
Can the PoolVac V-Flex be used with variable speed pumps?
Yes. The V-Flex turbine maintains strong suction at lower flow rates. Run the pump at a speed that achieves the correct flow gauge reading to balance performance and energy savings.
What do I do if the flow gauge reading is too high or too low?
If too high, reduce suction using the regulator valve or suction valves. If too low, check the filter, skimmer basket, pump basket, and lines for blockages. The regulator valve cannot increase flow.
How often should I check or replace shoes, wings, and flaps?
Inspect these wear items regularly. Shoes have a visible wear line showing when replacement is due. Worn parts affect traction and steering, so replacing them promptly maintains performance.
How do I prevent hose tangling or hose-related movement issues?
Ensure the hose length matches the pool size (pool length plus two sections) and always store hoses straight, never coiled. Coiled storage creates hose memory, which affects movement and is not covered under warranty.
Is wall climbing guaranteed for all pool shapes and surfaces?
No. The pool must have a minimum 180mm radius where the floor meets the wall. Certain shapes, steep transitions, or surface types may limit climbing. Correct shoes, adequate flow, and flap adjustment are still required.
What should I do if the cleaner stops due to debris blockage?
Turn off the pump and inspect the intake throat, turbine area, and rear screen. Remove any debris and confirm the flow gauge reading is correct before returning the cleaner to the pool.
Why is my cleaner not steering correctly or missing areas of the pool?
Steering issues can be caused by worn wings or shoes, blockages in the turbine area, or low water flow. Clean the rear screen, check that the cone gear rotates freely, and inspect the steering components.
Do I need the regulator valve, and how do I adjust it?
You need the regulator valve if suction is too strong. Insert it into the skimmer cone and adjust the blue collar until the flow gauge is within range. It reduces flow only; it cannot increase weak flow.
