Zodiac Metal Remover is a specialised liquid treatment for managing dissolved metals in swimming pool water. It is suited to coloured water, mineral-rich fill water and ongoing preventative maintenance.

Its hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid complex binds dissolved metal ions, helping prevent them from depositing as stains or scale while supporting their removal through filtration.

How to Use

Test and balance the pool water before treatment.
Measure the required dose and add it directly to the pool water.
Run the filtration system to support the removal of treated metal contamination.
Chemically clean the filter after treatment to remove collected metals from the system.
Re-test and rebalance the pool water after treatment.

Dosage & Coverage

Metal treatment: Add 200mL per 10,000 litres of pool water.
Preventative maintenance: Add 100mL per 10,000 litres approximately every five weeks.

Important Usage Information

Metal Remover performs best when the pool-water temperature is above 15°C.
For copper- or silver-ionised pools, remove the electrodes or turn off the ioniser for five days.
The phosphonic-acid complex can increase phosphate test readings. Do not treat this increase with Phosphate Remover while Metal Remover is active, as this may interfere with the treatment.
Seek professional advice before use in pools fitted with an inline heater.
Do not mix directly with chlorine or other pool chemicals. Add each product separately.

After treatment, re-test the water and maintain free chlorine at 2–4ppm and pH at 7.2–7.6. Keep Total Alkalinity at 80–120ppm for fully tiled, pebble and plaster pools, or 125–150ppm for vinyl and fibreglass pools.

Why should Metal Remover be used after stain treatment?

Stain-removal treatments lift metallic deposits from the pool surface and release them back into the water. Metal Remover binds these dissolved metals and reduces the risk of them settling onto the surface again.

Why can Metal Remover increase the phosphate reading?

The active ingredient is a phosphonic-acid complex, which can register as phosphate as it breaks down in the water. This reading is associated with the treatment and should not be immediately treated with Phosphate Remover while Metal Remover remains active.

Why should the filter be chemically cleaned after treatment?

The filtration system collects metal contamination managed during treatment. A chemical filter clean removes this material from the system and reduces the chance of it returning to the pool water.

How is Metal Remover different from Calcium Down?

Both products use hydroxyethylidene diphosphonic acid complex, but they have different concentrations and primary roles. Metal Remover contains 445g/L and is formulated for dissolved-metal control, coloured water and stain prevention. Calcium Down contains 370g/L and is positioned primarily for reducing scale and managing elevated calcium levels.

Inline heaters contain metal heat-exchanger components that can be affected by corrosive or scale-forming water. Professional advice helps confirm that the pool water is correctly balanced and that the treatment is suitable for the heater and its internal materials.
