Flexible Algae Treatment for Cleaner Pool Water
Zodiac Supreme Pool Algaecide provides treatment for everything from light algae growth to more established pool problems. It can be used for active treatment, initial prevention and ongoing weekly maintenance.
Its non-foaming performance makes it especially useful in pools where fountains, waterfalls, deck jets and other water features create additional movement and aeration.
Features & Benefits
- Concentrated polyquat formula: Contains 685g/L polymeric quaternary ammonium compound for active algae treatment and ongoing prevention.
- Broad algae control: Recommended for green, blue-green and mustard algae, as well as black spot treatment.
- Ideal for pools with water features: The non-foaming formula suits fountains, waterfalls, deck jets and other highly aerated pool setups.
- Metal-free treatment: Controls algae without adding copper residuals to the pool water.
- Four dosing applications: Separate doses are provided for heavy growth, light growth, initial prevention and weekly maintenance.

How It Works
Zodiac Supreme Pool Algaecide uses a polymeric quaternary ammonium compound, commonly known as a polyquat. The active ingredient interacts with algae cell surfaces and disrupts the normal cell functions required for algae to remain active and reproduce.
Unlike copper-based algaecides, the formula does not increase the pool’s metal level. Its non-foaming polyquat formulation also remains suitable where fountains, waterfalls and jets create strong water movement.
How to Use
- Test the pool water and adjust pH to between 7.2 and 7.6 if required.
- Brush affected walls, floors, steps and low-circulation areas to loosen attached algae.
- Select the appropriate dose based on the severity of the algae growth and the pool volume.
- Add the measured product according to the bottle directions, then operate normal circulation and filtration.
- Brush affected surfaces again after treatment to help dislodge remaining algae.
- Remove dead algae through filtration and normal pool cleaning. Use a suitable clarifier if fine material remains suspended, then chemically clean the filter after a significant bloom.
Dosage & Coverage
- Heavy algae growth: Add 150mL per 10,000 litres of pool water.
- Light algae growth: Add 110mL per 10,000 litres of pool water.
- Initial algae prevention: Add 60mL per 10,000 litres of pool water.
- Weekly maintenance: Add 40mL per 10,000 litres of pool water.
Important Usage Information
- This product does not replace chlorine. Maintain the required sanitiser level, circulation and filtration throughout treatment.
- Do not mix with other pool chemicals. Add each product separately according to its label directions.
- Select the dose for the actual severity of the algae problem; the weekly maintenance dose is not intended to treat an established bloom.
Maintain free chlorine at 2–4ppm and pH at 7.2–7.6. Keep Total Alkalinity at 80–120ppm for fully tiled, pebble and plaster pools, or 125–150ppm for vinyl and fibreglass pools.
A Better Pool Experience Starts with the Right Chemistry
Zodiac pool chemicals support the key parts of everyday water care, from balance and sanitising to algae prevention, clarity, stain control and equipment protection.
Each product has a clear role in helping pool water stay cleaner, more comfortable and easier to manage, so the pool feels ready to enjoy more often.

Frequently Asked Questions
How is Supreme Pool Algaecide different from Zodiac Pool Algaecide?
Both products are metal-free, but they use different active formulas. Supreme Pool Algaecide uses a concentrated polyquat formula designed to remain non-foaming in heavily aerated pools. Zodiac Pool Algaecide uses benzalkonium chloride and may foam around jets and water features.
How is Supreme Pool Algaecide different from copper-based Zodiac algaecides?
Supreme Pool Algaecide is a metal-free, non-foaming polyquat treatment suitable for active algae control and ongoing prevention. Pool Power Algaecide combines benzalkonium chloride with copper for heavy-duty treatment, while Pool Long Life Algaecide uses copper to provide extended seasonal protection for up to three months.
Why is brushing particularly important when treating black spot?
Black spot can attach firmly to hard pool surfaces and develop a protective outer layer. Thorough brushing helps break through this layer so the treatment can reach the algae more effectively.
Why should the pool filter be chemically cleaned after a major algae bloom?
Dead algae and remaining spores can accumulate inside the filter during treatment. Chemically cleaning the filter after the bloom has been removed helps clear this material and reduces the chance of it being returned to the pool.
