Product Description

Balanced pH for More Comfortable Pool Water

Zodiac pH Up Soda Ash raises low pH in swimming pool water to help bring water back into the recommended pH range. Correct pH supports swimmer comfort, chlorine performance and everyday water balance.

Made with sodium carbonate, pH Up is designed to have a stronger effect on pH than Total Alkalinity. It is useful when the main goal is to lift pH without making the larger alkalinity correction normally associated with buffer.

Dosage & Coverage

If pH is below 6.8: Add 100g per 10,000 litres.
If pH is 6.8–7.0: Add 80g per 10,000 litres.
If pH is 7.0–7.2: Add 60g per 10,000 litres.
Frequency: Test pH weekly and adjust only when required.

Important Usage Information

Always test Total Alkalinity first, then adjust pH, followed by calcium hardness if required.
Dissolve the product in a bucket of pool water, then apply the solution evenly around the pool edges with the filter running.
For larger corrections, split the dose into smaller additions rather than adding it all at once.
Do not add more than 2kg per 50,000 litres in any 6-hour period, as metals may plate out on pool surfaces if present.
This product can cause cloudiness at the time of application.
Allow the pump and filter to run for at least 3 hours before retesting.
For Mineral Guard or silver ion systems, use Zodiac Alkalinity Up / buffer instead of soda ash when pH needs increasing.
Balance pH and Total Alkalinity at least 48 hours before using copper-based algaecides.
Do not mix with other pool chemicals.

Ideal pH range for swimming pool water is 7.2–7.8.

Can pH Up also increase Total Alkalinity?

Yes. pH Up can have some effect on Total Alkalinity, but its main role is pH correction. If both pH and Total Alkalinity are low, pH Up can be useful; if Total Alkalinity is the main issue, Alkalinity Up is the more direct product.

Why can low pH water still look clear?

Very low pH water can sometimes look clear and sparkling even when it is out of balance. A water test is still needed because acidic water can be uncomfortable for swimmers and harsh on pool surfaces, fittings and equipment.

What problems can low pH cause?

Low pH means the water is more acidic. This can contribute to corrosion of metal parts such as ladders, rails and heater internals, etching or pitting on some pool surfaces, and red or stinging eyes for swimmers.

Why should large pH Up doses be split?

Large pH changes can stress water balance and may cause dissolved metals to plate out as stains. Splitting larger corrections into smaller additions gives the water time to circulate and respond before more product is added.

Why is pH adjustment sensitive?

The pH scale is logarithmic, so small number changes represent large chemistry changes. This is why pH should be adjusted carefully, with circulation and retesting before further correction.

Why should Mineral Guard or silver ion pools avoid soda ash?

In Mineral Guard or silver ion systems, soda ash can react with silver ions and create persistent cloudiness. In these pools, Zodiac Alkalinity Up / buffer is the preferred option when pH needs increasing.

Why should pH be balanced before using copper algaecide?

Copper-based algaecides are more sensitive to sudden water balance changes. Balance pH and Total Alkalinity at least 48 hours before using copper algaecide to help reduce the risk of staining from chemical fluctuations.
