It’s best to add the Winteriser Pack at the beginning of the cooler months — typically between March and May — once the water temperature starts dropping below 18°C. This helps ensure algae is less active and allows your winterising chemicals to work effectively throughout the season.
Do I need to run my pool pump during winter after using the Winteriser Pack?
Yes, but you can reduce the run time. We recommend running the pump for about 2–4 hours per day during winter to circulate the water and maintain proper chemical balance.
Can I close (winterise) my pool too early?
Closing your pool too early can be detrimental. If daytime temperatures are still above 18°C, winterising chemicals may deteriorate faster and fail to last through the season, leading to unbalanced water and increased chemical costs.
Additionally, warm water encourages algae growth — especially if your pool is covered and filtration is reduced. For best results, wait until daytime temperatures consistently drop below 18°C before winterising your pool.
Do I still need to check on my pool during winter?
Yes. Even after winterising, your pool needs occasional upkeep. We recommend inspecting your equipment weekly and testing the water at least fortnightly to keep chemical levels balanced. This helps prevent algae blooms or equipment issues and makes reopening the pool much easier.
Should I clean my salt cell and filter before closing the pool?
Absolutely. Salt cells should be cleaned every 3–4 months to prevent calcification and extend their lifespan. If you see white calcification building up in your cell, it's definitely time for a clean. Cleaning the filter before winter prevents oils and debris from hardening, which makes spring cleaning easier.
Can I swim in the pool after adding the Winteriser Pack?
Yes. Once the products have fully dispersed — typically after a full filter cycle — it’s safe to swim.
Will the Winteriser Pack work with all types of pools and filters?
Yes. The Zodiac Winteriser Pack is suitable for all pool surfaces (concrete, fibreglass, vinyl) and all filter types (sand, cartridge, glass media).
Can I use the Winteriser Pack even if my pool already has algae?
