Zodiac Liquid Pool Acid reduces high pH and Total Alkalinity in swimming pool water. Correct pH helps pool water stay more comfortable for swimmers, easier to manage and better suited to everyday sanitising.

This liquid hydrochloric acid formula is a fast-acting option for acid-based water balancing, especially where pH and Total Alkalinity both need to be lowered. It helps bring water chemistry back toward the recommended range so chlorine can work more effectively.

Dosage & Coverage

Dose rate: Dosage depends on current pH, Total Alkalinity and pool water volume.

How is Pool Acid different from pH Down dry acid?

Zodiac Liquid Pool Acid uses hydrochloric acid, while Zodiac pH Down uses sodium bisulphate dry acid. Pool Acid is a fast-acting liquid acid with no granular residue, but it is corrosive, gives off fumes and needs stricter handling. pH Down dry acid is usually easier to measure, store and handle, with no liquid acid fumes.

Why does high pH need correcting?

High pH can reduce chlorine effectiveness and make pool water harder to manage. It can also contribute to cloudy water and scale-forming conditions if left uncorrected.

Can Pool Acid reduce Total Alkalinity as well as pH?

Yes. Liquid Pool Acid reduces pH and can also lower Total Alkalinity. This is useful where Total Alkalinity is high and causing pH to keep rising.

Why should Pool Acid be added slowly?

Large acid adjustments can shift water balance too quickly. Adding smaller doses, circulating the water and retesting helps avoid overcorrection and reduces the chance of dissolved metals plating out as stains.

Why must Pool Acid be stored upright?

Pool Acid is a corrosive liquid. Keeping the bottle upright with the lid tightly secured helps reduce the risk of leaks, spills and fume exposure during storage or transport.

Can Pool Acid be used for stain removal?

Pool Acid is not recommended for general spot stain removal. Hydrochloric acid is highly acidic and can damage pool surfaces if used directly, including etching concrete surfaces or contributing to issues on fibreglass finishes.

Should I use Pool Acid to clean a salt chlorinator cell?

Pool Acid is often used in diluted form for cell cleaning, but Zodiac Salt Chlorinator Cleaner is the better option for routine maintenance because it is designed for cleaning the cell while helping preserve electrode life.
