💡 Did You Know?
In summer, a 50,000L pool with 5 bathers may need up to 250 grams of chlorine per day to stay clean and safe. That’s why correctly sizing your chlorinator matters — and why it's better to oversize than undersize.
Easy Installation & Maintenance
- Simple Setup: Installs horizontally with correct flow orientation, with the cell inlet near the electrical lead. Fits 40mm or 50mm PVC pipes.

- Low Maintenance: Automatic self-cleaning reduces calcium deposits. Manual cleaning, when needed, uses Salt Chlorinator Cell Cleaner or a safe 1:10 hydrochloric acid solution (see manual for details).
- Water Chemistry Matters: Maintain balanced water (pH, salinity, etc.) to prevent calcium build-up and ensure cell longevity, protecting your warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions:
How do I choose the right size chlorinator?
It depends on your pool volume, climate, and usage. A 50,000L pool with 5 bathers in summer may need up to 250g of chlorine per day. Choosing a chlorinator with higher output ensures consistent sanitation during heatwaves or heavy use. For help selecting the right size, click here.
What’s included with the EQ45?
Each unit includes the eQ Controller, electrolytic cell and electrodes, 50mm injection mixing cell, unions with 50mm glue-on adapters, venting kit, and wall mount hardware.
Note: Optional pH and ORP sensors are sold separately. The ORP sensor (Part #525146) does not include the required RJ12 Remote Interface Cable (Part #10927), which is needed to connect to a Viron XT pump or Viron Connect 10 control system.
Does the pH control work automatically?
In standard mode, pH control is semi-automatic. The system doses acid based on chlorine output, but must be manually calibrated during the first week using a test kit. For full automation, add the pH Sensor Kit (520135).
Can I control the EQ45 using my phone?
Yes. The AstralPool ChlorinatorGO app connects via Bluetooth and allows you to manage chlorinator settings, timers, pH and ORP readings (with probes), pump speed (if compatible), and lights (if using Connect LITE).
Is the EQ45 compatible with mineral pools?
Yes, the AstralPool Viron EQ45 is compatible with both traditional saltwater and mineral pool blends. Maintain salt levels between 3000–8000 ppm, ideally around 4000 ppm.
Why is my chlorinator showing a “Low Salt” or “Low Conductivity” warning?
This means the salt level in your pool is below the minimum threshold for operation (3000 ppm). Test the pool’s salt level using a test strip or take a sample to a pool shop. If needed, add salt gradually to bring the level up to the recommended 4000 ppm. Be sure the salt is fully dissolved before restarting the chlorinator.
What does a “No Flow” error mean?
The chlorinator has detected insufficient water flow and paused chlorine production for safety. Check that your filter pump is running, skimmer baskets are clean, valves are open, and the flow sensor wiring is properly connected. Restart the system after correcting the issue.
How often should I clean the chlorinator cell?
The EQ45 has a self-cleaning reverse polarity cell, which reduces scale buildup. However, manual cleaning may be required periodically depending on your water chemistry. If calcium deposits are visible, clean the cell using a salt cell cleaner or a 1:10 hydrochloric acid solution as described in the manual.
How do I maintain pH and ORP sensors?
If you’ve installed the pH or ORP probes, clean and calibrate them monthly using the appropriate maintenance kit and test solutions. Always store the probes wet when not in use and avoid exposing them to direct sunlight for extended periods.
Can I retrofit the EQ45 into an existing setup?
Yes, the EQ45 is compatible with most standard 40mm and 50mm plumbing and can be installed in place of older chlorinators. Check the dimensions and flow orientation before installation, or contact us for guidance.
Is it safe to swim while the chlorinator is operating?
Yes. Chlorinators like the EQ45 are designed to maintain safe sanitiser levels and operate while the pool is in use. Always ensure your water is properly balanced before swimming.
Can I use the EQ45 in a spa or heated pool?
Yes, the system operates effectively in water temperatures up to 40°C. For spas or plunge pools, confirm water volume and ensure salt levels and water chemistry are kept within recommended ranges.
What type of salt should I use?
Use pool-grade salt or mineral blends with 99%+ purity. Avoid table salt or industrial-grade salts, as impurities can damage the chlorinator. Maintain salt levels between 3000–8000 ppm (ideally 4000 ppm).
